Royal Academy of Engineering elects new Fellow

This month, MMD’s Group Head of Engineering - Richard Barber was one of 50 engineers welcomed as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

The New Fellows’ Ceremony took place on Wednesday 19th October at Draper’s Hall in London. Renowned engineers from across the country are elected to the Academy in recognition of their outstanding and continuing contributions to the profession.

Professor Dame Ann Dowling OM DBE FREng FRS, President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, said: “From life-changing equipment revolutionising our hospitals to new tools that are enabling high-tech businesses to flourish, their work has delivered great value to society. We are very much looking forward to working with all our new Fellows as we continue to make the UK a leading nation for engineering innovation.”

Upon learning of his election Richard was both surprised and humbled. “I never really expected to be considered for such a thing, but obviously I’m delighted.”

Richard started out as an apprentice and only later gained any formal engineering qualifications. During his career at MMD, Richard has overseen the development of a wide range of Mineral Sizers, Feeders and In-Pit Sizing & Conveying equipment, and continues to innovate in the field of mining machinery.

“I see it as an acknowledgment of MMD’s credentials, and obviously that’s not just down to me. I have a great team of people behind me and we’ve developed some great stuff, and really put ourselves on the map.”

The MMD Group would like to extend its congratulations and thanks to Richard for his continued hard work and dedication to the company. With his commitment to pioneering R&D, MMD believes this is a truly well-deserved recognition of an impressive career.

Well done - Richard Barber CEng MIED MEng BSc (Hons) FREng
